Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. A refrigerant is a liquid that is stored in your AC coils, which help cool and dehumidify the indoor air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 as a result of its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Midlothian because it’ll help make your cooling system operate efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should look into upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally unavailable. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Daniel's Heating & Refrigeration Corp. work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. Additionally, refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
